The PIL museum visitors guide was originally developed as a research prototype focusing on supporting small groups of visitors as well as individual visitors.
Substantial effort has been put on a methodological approach for the creation of multimedia presentations and on the user interface design. Other efforts focused on creating a positioning system that would enable visitor to seamlessly get location-aware information.
One of the stated goals of the project was to make the technology available to the public, in addition to being a research project. The system was therefore developed, and experimented at the Hecht museum located at the University of Haifa, an archaeological museum dedicated to the archaeology of the land of Israel going back to 4500 BCE. Currently, the PIL museum guide is deployed and available to visitors of the Hecht museum.
